Introduction
Opened in 1972 by Her Majesty the Queen and situated on the historic site of Hendon's London Aerodrome in Colindale, our North London Museum is London’s only attraction to house over 100 aircraft from around the world including some very early aircraft designs through to the latest modern day jets and military aircraft.
With free admission plus free interactive and fun activities, including our 3D Cinema (located in Milestones of Flight) and our emotive and uplifting sound and light show Our Finest Hour (located in our Battle of Britain Hall), our London museum offers an entertaining and educational day out for all the family - just 30 minutes from central London.

The Museum houses a world-class collection of aircraft, aviation artefacts and memorabilia. The Royal Air Force Museum's London site at Hendon is vast and it is really impossible to see everything in just one visit. Here are some suggestions about what you could fit into a short and a longer visit. The Museum is based around the following hangers:
GRAHAME-WHITE FACTORY & WATCH OFFICE | This building is the UK's first aircraft factory, purpose-built, here at Hendon by Claude Grahame-White in 1917. Displays the Museum's oldest aircraft
MILESTONES OF FLIGHT | The Milestones of Flight building was opened in 2003, 100 years after the first powered flight by Orville Wright. High viewing areas and state-of-the-art interactive technology
BOMBER HALL | Here the London site holds it collection of Bomber Aircraft. Please note, the Museum's Wellington Bomber is currently at the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre undergoing refurbishment
HISTORIC HANGARS | The Historic Hangars are listed buildings that were part of the old Hendon Aerodrome, the cradle of British aviation. They have been linked together by a new building of fighter aircraft
BATTLE OF BRITAIN HALL | Hosts the exhibition depicting the story of the worlds first decisive air battle. Our Finest Hour is the stunning audiovisual presentation of the Battle and is shown every hour on the hour
